Satellite photograph mosaics of Greenland from the 1960s era

چکیده
This paper presents two mosaics of Greenland compiled from Declassi ed Intelligence Photography Project (DISP) data acquired in 1962 and 1963. The rst mosaic consists of 24 orthorecti ed images from eight orbits acquired during the ARGON 9034A mission (the rst generation of reconnaissance satellite system) in May 1962. The second mosaic consists of 36 orthorecti ed images from 14 orbits acquired during the ARGON 9058A mission in October 1963. We discuss techniques used to address challenges arising from lm-record quality and satellite navigation information. These techniques include adaptive ltering, bright strip removal, radiometric balancing, geometric recti cation, quality control, mosaic post-processing. We estimate the relative geolocation accuracy, as compared to a 1992 ERS Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) mosaic, to be about 200m and the absolute accuracy to be about 450m. We show that this is suYcient to make quantitative comparisons in ice sheet extent over a 30 year interval.

A Study on the Evolution of Designing approach of the Modern Mosques in the Second Pahlavi Era by Emphasis on the Critical Regionalist Approach (Case studies: Al-Javad Mosque, Tehran University Mosque, Jondi Shapour Mosque)
The beginning of the second Pahlavi era was accompanied by the rise to power of a generation of academic and technocrat architects of the first Pahlavi period, which in the 1960s led to maximize attention to modernist architecture. Modernism was supported at the cultural level of society in a way that led to the design and construction of Modern mosques such as the al-Javad Mosque and the Unive...
متن کاملDem Reconstruction of Larsen B Region Based on 1960s Optical Satellite Imagery
Antarctica is an important part of the earth system and crucial to global sea-level and climate change. In 1995, a number of US intelligence satellite photographs from the1960s to 1970s have been declassified, only a portion of which (ARGON) covers the Antarctica. It provides a broader perspective to study the early Antarctica and it’s very important for us to study the changes in the early sta...
متن کاملPossibility of Estimating Seasonal Snow Depth Based Solely on Passive Microwave Remote Sensing on the Greenland Ice Sheet in Spring
Sea level rise related to the melting and thinning of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS), a subject of growing concern in recent years, will eventually affect the global climate. Although the melting of snow on the GrIS is actively monitored by passive microwave remote sensing, very few studies have estimated the seasonal GrIS snow depth using this technique. In this study, to estimate seasonal sno...

The evolution of skylights and the way light is transmitted to dome-houses has always been a chief concern in architects’ mind. In terms of development and technique, such an element has been neglected, however being of significance. This main part, which has a great artistic role in Islamic architecture from the perspective of technique, form and position, has changed over time and improperl...
متن کاملResponse of a marine‐terminating Greenland outlet glacier to abrupt cooling 8200 and 9300 years ago
[1] Long‐term records of Greenland outlet‐glacier change extending beyond the satellite era can inform future predictions of Greenland Ice Sheet behavior. Of particular relevance is elucidating the Greenland Ice Sheet’s response to decadal‐ and centennial‐scale climate change. Here, we reconstruct the early Holocene history of Jakobshavn Isbræ, Greenland’s largest outlet glacier, using Be surfa...
